Learn an Easy System to Draw Freeform Celtic Knots
Celtic Knots are beautiful figures from ancient cultures, traditionally drawn using grids and complex mathematical formulas. However, there are easier ways to draw and design beautiful knots! We will explore these easy to learn techniques in depth in Learn to Draw Celtic Knots
Learn to interlace the cord
One technique to approach drawing the interlacements in celtic knots seen in this mini-tutorial Mini-Tutorial. But this is just a starting point!
In the first part class, we will learn new step by step ways of creating even continuous lines to define the cords on predrawn design strings. Several methods for visualizing the process will be presented because students have different learning styles. As a result, students will be able to follow the techniques that work best for them.
As we become comfortable with the process, we will begin to experience the wonderful mental “flow” that results from the repeating rhythms of drawing!
After mastering a few simple strings, like these:

Triquetra

A non interlaced string.
we will challenge ourselves to draw more complex, and elegant knot figures such as these.

Learn to Design Your Own Freeform Celtic Knots
After mastering the method of drawing freeform Celtic Knots from predrawn strings, as explored in the “Taste of Celtic Knot” class, the real fun can begin!
The second part of the class will focus on Freeform Celtic Knot Design. To begin, students will learn how to use simple shapes to design their own knot strings or cords. Here are some examples

We will explore some basic principles of successful strings, and why they work and then build on those basic ideas and design two or even three string knots adding loops, points, crosses and other elements to create very complex designs such as these..

Students will leave with a workbook that they create, and will have exclusive access to online content to further their exploration into these wonderful forms.
Please bring drawing pencils and pens, and erasers if you have them. All other materials will be provided.
